Communications Officer

The Climate Overshoot Commission, a project of the Paris Peace Forum, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Communications Officer to join the Climate Overshoot Commission project on a full-time, fixed-term contract for 12 months (with a possible extension) based in Paris.

// RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implement a comprehensive communications strategy in collaboration with the external relations advisor and executive secretary, particularly the release of the Commission’s report in September

  • Draft, edit, and distribute diverse communication materials, including press releases, newsletters, social media posts, opinion columns, and internal reports

  • Proactively establish and maintain relationships with media outlets, journalists, and thought leaders

  • Support the Secretariat and Commissioners in their relevant public communications, especially after the report’s release

  • Develop and implement internal policies to ensure effective and consistent public communication across the Secretariat

  • Manage and maintain communication infrastructure, including website, newsletter, contact and subscriber databases, social media accounts, analytics tools, and media monitoring tools

  • Track and report on communication metrics 

  • Design documents and graphic elements

  • Copy-edit documents

  • Oversee external contractors including translators, copy-editors, and graphic designers

  • Monitor and summarise relevant international news coverage

  • Respond to and address potential external communication challenges

  • Attend the meetings and side-events of the Commission, as required

  • Depending on the candidate, potentially support fundraising and development efforts, including grant applications, tracking, and reporting

 

// IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE

The successful candidate has:   

  • 5+ years of post-university communications experience, with a focus on international affairs, global governance, and/or environmental issues

  • Proficient in the use of software such as Mailchimp, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google Workspace, website content management systems; and graphic design software 

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (both written and spoken)

  • Strong ability to establish and maintain relationships with people at diverse levels of authority

  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and flexibility

  • Comfortable working as part of a small, remote team

  • Willingness to travel internationally as needed

  • Native-level English proficiency and fluency in French

  • Authorised to work in the European Union

 

//CONDITIONS

Full-time, fixed-term employment until the project ends. Other arrangements may be possible. 

35,000 euro annually, reimbursement of 50% of transportation costs, and meal vouchers at restaurants.

//ABOUT THE CLIMATE OVERSHOOT COMMISSION

The Global Commission on Governing Risks from Climate Overshoot (the ‘Climate Overshoot Commission’) is an independent group of eminent global leaders, who will recommend a strategy to reduce risks should global warming goals be exceeded. It will meet approximately six times in person in global locations, leading to a report in late summer 2023.

A Secretariat composed of academic experts and professional diplomats supports the Commission. The Secretariat is currently hosted by the Paris Peace Forum, an international civil society organisation committed to improve global governance.
