Members of the Climate Overshoot Commission were chosen based on three criteria:
1 / Eminent
Commissioners’ authority and expertise underlines the urgency of this conversation.
2 / Global
Multiple perspectives are essential to create a strategy that works for people across the planet. Commissioners come from diverse backgrounds, with a majority from the Global South.
3 / Independent
The Commissioners deliberate as individual experts, not representing institutions or corporations.
While the Climate Overshoot Commission is focused primarily on governance matters, its mandate includes issues that have substantial scientific and technical aspects. The Commission is advised by high-level international scientists with relevant expertise in climate change and Earth systems. They ensure that the Commission is knowledgeable about, and has ready access to, the relevant scientific evidence and help keep the Commission’s outputs consistent with current scientific understanding.
